Many don't realise that Blue Mountain and Collingwood are two different places. Yes nestled together to appear being the same I can see why most believe they are. But, Blue Mountain, Ontario is a hamlet of it's own.
Blue Mountain is just west of Collingwood along Highway 26 surrounding the area of the hill. Most of Blue Mountain are the slopes and the village but there is some great areas offering beautiful detached houses and ranch style bungalows as well as the traditional chalets.
The Blue Mountains is a town in Grey County, southwestern Ontario, Canada, located where the Beaver River flows into Nottawasaga Bay. It is named for the Blue Mountain, and hence the economy of the town is centred on tourism, particularly on the Blue Mountain ski resort and the private Georgian Peaks, Osler, Craigleith and Alpine Ski Clubs.
The town was formed on January 1, 2001, when the Town of Thornbury was amalgamated with the Township of Collingwood. Thornbury is home to the architecturally unique L.E. Shore Memorial Library, named after the founding partner of the architectural practice of Shore Tilbe Irwin + Partners, and designed by the firm.
The primary population centre is Thornbury. Additionally the town's territory also includes the communities of Banks, Camperdown, Castle Glen Estates, Christie Beach, Clarksburg, Craigleith, Duncan, Gibraltar, Swiss Meadows, Heathcote, Kolapore, Little Germany, Lora Bay, Loree, Ravenna, Red Wing, Slabtown, and Victoria Corners.
Blue Mountain, Ontario Real Estate:
Blue Mountain encompass' small communities around the mountain the largest being Thornbury. There is a mixture of farms, chalets, cottages and traditional homes throughout. Many of the properties are older even historic properties throughout. But, lately we have seen newer small sub-divisions built offering 2 storey and ranch style bungalows.
Close to the mountain real estate is at a prime especially the chalets and cottages hugging the mountain and the shoreline of Georgian Bay. But, if you are looking for some reasonable priced properties they can be found on the mountain to the west and places like Thornbury.
We have seen the growth over the past 20 years in and around the village of condos and condo townhouses though many of these units are owned by investors and time share owners.
Growth will continue in this area and it is important you work with an agent that understands this unique market.
The Bruce Trail passes through sections of the town. The Kolapore area for mountain biking and cross-country skiing, Metcalfe Rock which is popular with rock climbers as well as the Duncan Crevice Caves Nature Reserve are in the area as well.
